How Your Company can Show Support for the Black Community

The conversation around diversity is a hot topic in our industry. Is our staff diverse enough? What are the benefits of having a diverse workforce? What is the best way to retain that workforce? During Black History Month, what can companies do to show their support? You can start by communicating with your staff. Ask your employees what they would most like to see from your company in regards to how you can best support them.

In addition to seeing what your employees think would be helpful, there are other ways to show your support for Black History Month. Volunteering or donating to local charities is a great way to get involved with your community and show your support in a meaningful way. Can your company buy or use a service from a black-owned business? Is there a local activist you can invite to come speak at your company? What about a webinar to educate your employees on the importance of Black History Month? Get creative! The ways to show your support are endless and it creates a sense of trust not only for your employees but for your customers as well.

It’s important to make sure your support does not end at the end of February, however. Black History Month is a great way to start getting involved, but your continued support throughout the year is crucial in creating a truly diverse workforce.
